Ric’s Netflix Picks: “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”

jeff-who-lives-at-home-trailerCan you find your purpose in life from your mother’s couch?

Sure, if you follow the signs.

Meet Jeff (Jason Segel). He is 30 years old, unemployed and lives at home. Drawing inspiration from the movie Signs, Jeff looks for clues to his destiny where others see only coincidence. After answering a phone call for a “Kevin” — clearly a wrong number, Jeff sees it is a sign and begins his search for all things Kevin-related. Interwoven through his adventure are his brother and mother, Pat (Ed Helms) and Sharon (Susan Sarandon). Together they face their fears and move towards achieving their destinies.

Written and directed by brothers Jay and Mark Duplass, Jeff, Who Lives at Home is an inspirational tale about the seemingly chaotic and downtrodden nature of life. Fans of How I Met Your Mother will love Segel’s performance, reminiscent of the hope that Marshall Eriksen typically displays. Helms (The Office (US)) is as funny and exaggerated as expected, and Judy Greer (Arrested Development) brings a balanced harshness to the film.
