Who watches the watchmen?”  – Juvenal

No one.

This is what director Kirby Dick attempts to show about the Motion Picture Association of America‘s rating system in his 2006 documentary This Film is Not Rated. He contends that the MPAA operates in secret and judges films without a particular or verifiable set of standards. Along with a private investigator, he seeks to uncover who actually rates films and what their qualifications are. Featuring interviews with directors Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Pi), Mary Harron (America Psycho), Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry), Kevin Smith (Clerks), Matt Stone (South Park) and others, this documentary will have you questioning exactly what should be and what should not be “approved for all audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America.”

What do you think about the MMPA’s practices?
