Ric’s Netflix Picks: “Tiny Furniture”

Are you a fan of HBO’s Girls?

If so, then look no further!

Tiny Furniture is the first full length feature film by Girls‘ creator, Lena Dunham. She stars as Aura, a recent college graduate returning home for the first time. Watch as she contends with the challenges of every day life, such as family, work, friends and relationships. Concerned more with the introspective and self-centered nature of the protagonist rather than plot, the film rolls along with the apparent listlessness of the generation it attempts to define.

Because it stars Lena Dunham‘s actual family (Laurie Simmons and Grace Dunham) and Girls‘ costars (Jemima Kirke and Alex Karpovsky), this story feels less like a scripted narrative and more like an autobiography.

Frankly, I did not enjoy this movie. But if Girls is your cup of tea, then Tiny Furniture will be right up your alley. And while you are at it, check out some of Snippet‘s thoughts on HBO’s Girls, available here.
